My name is Amelise Burr, and I’m the 15-year-old brains behind Cambridge Artisan.
For years I wanted to get my teeth into something big – and really felt age was no object. I might be in Year 10 but when school’s out, I’m digging in – digging in to lovely, local food from Cambridge to be exact.
There’s so many tasty things going on in my city – and with local producers offering everything from spicy charcuterie and organic chocolate to artisan coffee and home-baked cookies (jist check out my favourite make-your-own-brownie kits from the Gourmet Brownie Co), I wanted to fly the flag for independent food from my neck of the woods.
I spent months meeting traders at the market square and food fairs around Cambridgeshire to munch on mouthwatering morsels. My dad runs The Churros Bar, so I get to meet lots of enthusiastic foodies. But I quickly realised shoppers were finding it tricky to buy local food and drink all from one place. I felt sure there should be an equally yummy website where food lovers could find all their Cambridgeshire favourites under one roof.
That’s where it all started (with a little bit of help from dad of course!) and since summer 2015, I’ve been building contacts and designing delicious gift boxes while juggling my homework.
My family and I like to think Cambridge Artisan is the place where bytes meet bites – so get your fork and mouse at the ready and dig in!
